Did your dad grow up with the Mets?

This book chronicles the early years of the New York Mets, from their clownish 120-loss inaugural season to their improbable 1969 World Series Championship — which fittingly coincided with man’s landing on the moon.

Chock full of quotes from Casey Stengel and visions of Hot Rod Kanehl, Choo Choo Coleman, Marvelous Marv Throneberry, and Ron Swoboda (among others — over 100 player interviews in all), this tome is THE definitive narrative on the birth and adolescence of the New York Mets.

The Complete Game: Reflections on Baseball, Pitching, and Life on the Mound http://store.metstoday.com/products/2009/the-complete-game-reflections-on-baseball-pitching-and-life-on-the-mound/ http://store.metstoday.com/products/2009/the-complete-game-reflections-on-baseball-pitching-and-life-on-the-mound/#comments Thu, 11 Jun 2009 18:09:42 +0000 joejanish http://store.metstoday.com/?p=24 Item Image

Former New York Mets pitcher and Emmy-award winning broadcast analyst Ron Darling wrote this insightful book on what goes through a pitcher’s head before, during, and after a Major League Baseball game.

If you are old enough to remember Darling, he was the typical enigma on the mound. Despite an Ivy League education, he fit the mold of many physically gifted pitchers — those with the million-dollar arm and a ten-cent head. Only it wasn’t Darling’s lack of intelligence that held him back — in fact, it was the opposite: he thought TOO MUCH.

That said, he is most fitting as the author of a book inside the mind of an MLB pitcher, opening the door to all the thoughts that can go through a pitcher’s mind in various situations, and his options in dealing with them.

This is an outstanding read for anyone who considers themself a “student of the game”, and is recommended for young pitchers aspiring to reach the big leagues.

From First to Worst: The New York Mets 1973-1977 http://store.metstoday.com/products/books/2009/from-first-to-worst-the-new-york-mets-1973-1977/ http://store.metstoday.com/products/books/2009/from-first-to-worst-the-new-york-mets-1973-1977/#comments Thu, 11 Jun 2009 17:49:28 +0000 joejanish http://store.metstoday.com/?p=21 Item Image

Did your dad live through perhaps the most painful decade of Mets history? Help him relive the pain by buying him this book, a reflection on the Mets feverishly fast fall from grace.

If you’re too young to remember, the Mets came within one game of winning the 1973 World Series, and seemed poised for success in the following years. They had a young and talented pitching staff, the best defense in the National League, and a clutch hitter named Rusty Staub in his prime. But a series of bumbling decisions, mismanagement, and an empty farm system sent the once-promising franchise to the cellar. And you thought “collapse” was a recent addition to Mets history!

Through massive research and player interviews, author Jacob Kanarek guides you through all the pitfalls, dashed dreams, and behind-the-scenes moves that destroyed the organization. It may be considered a study in how to fail, and should be recommended reading for anyone who doesn’t want to see history repeat itself.

This one is hot off the press and already receiving rave reviews!

Former New York Met fan favorite and current SNY announcer Keith Hernandez gives his view of the team’s final season in Shea Stadium, with help from prolific author Matt Silverman.

Keith Hernandez is his typically uninhibited self, expressing opinionated views on everything that happened during the 2008 Mets season — from spring training, through the Willie Randolph firing, to the team’s second consecutive collapse in the final days of the season.

This one is a must-read for anyone who wants to know what REALLY doomed the Mets in 2008.

Nothing like waking up barbecued chicken and ribs with a little “BAM” !

This extra-special hot sauce from HotSauce Harry’s has a tangy zing and is contained in bottle licensed by the New York Mets.

The price may seem high until you realize that it includes a set of four 5-oz.  jars, not just one.
